Graduation at SouthLake Christian Academy was awesome this year as 63 seniors walked across the stage in the Wilcox Center. It was especially exciting for me this year to be sitting on one of the reserved seats on the gym floor with the family of graduate Garren Hatley. (I’ve never done this before.) Since 2003 (our first class to graduate), I have missed very few of them.
Since our school began in 1994 with 23 students, it has been fun for me to watch its growth through the years. In the early years I attended chapel with the kids and, later on, I spent time with 3rd and 4th grade classes. We went on field trips to many places—by train sometimes, and in cars—and the kids rode a bus to my farm for picnics and scavenger hunts.
It was always an honor to be asked to talk to the students about the history of our church and the area. Our church is in an area that has seen much change after the building of the Cowan’s Ford Dam that formed Lake Norman in 1964 (encompassing 520 miles of shoreline).
Our school serves a wide area of students, and we love hearing about their accomplishments and congratulate our 2015 class.
Again, it was so good to be present for their special day, and we send best wishes to all of them for future success!
