SouthLake Christian Academy’s High School Retreat to Windy Gap, by Adam Mumpower

From September 8-10, SouthLake Christian Academy had approximately 240 students, 29 teachers and leaders, 40 parents, three nurses, three band members, and one speaker travel to Weaverville, NC for the annual High School Retreat at Windy Gap. Windy Gap is a destination owned and operated by Young Life, and it is located 15 minutes north of Asheville, NC, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

At Windy Gap, SouthLake Christian Academy students enjoyed three days of chapels, small groups, and team building exercises. Rev. Dan Alger from Anglican Church of the Redeemer (located in Hamilton Mill, GA) was the retreat’s honored guest speaker. Dan challenged the students each day from God’s Word, and he encouraged them to meet with their teachers in smaller groups to discuss topics on “Loving the Church”, “Salt and Light” and “Is the Tomb Empty or Full?”

SouthLake students also participated in 53 different class competi- tions. The competitions were between the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. The class competition awarded points from a wide range of team events such has basketball, swimming and tug of war to board games like Pictionary, checkers and Connect-4. The seniors won this year’s competition with 4,150 points, followed by the juniors (3,425 points), sophomores (2,225 points) and freshmen (1,125 points).
